Welcome to the SERC-IAATI website. Take a moment to browse the site to learn more about us.
My name is Henry Beck and I would like to thank the members of the Southeastern Region Chapter – International Association of Auto Theft Investigators for the opportunity to serve as the newly elected President for the 2017/2018 term.
During my 22 year law enforcement career, I served in a variety of specialized units. I began my career as a Probation Officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1994. After serving for 3 ½ years as a Probation Officer, I transitioned to the Patrol Division of the Americus Police Department. In 2001, I moved from Georgia to South Carolina where I went to work for the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. I served 4 years as a deputy sheriff in Patrol and the Street Crimes Unit before being promoted to a detective. I spent 8 years as a detective in the Narcotics Unit and the Property Crimes Unit. In 2012, I was promoted Sergeant of the Property Crimes Unit and developed an Auto Crimes Unit. I recently retired in September 2016 and now have the privilege of working as a law enforcement liaison with LoJack serving both North and South Carolina.
It has been proven many times that auto theft is a “gateway” crime. As every street officer and investigator knows, it’s very rarely just about the stolen car. From homicide, armed robbery, drug trafficking and fraud, auto theft is quite often the initial crime where a crime spree begins and ends. The SERC-IAATI is a tool to assist in training officers and investigators in keeping their communities safe while improving the quality of life for their citizens. The mission of the SERC-IAATI is to train and equip law enforcement in the detection and prevention of auto theft and related crimes, keep up with current trends and technology, provide networking and subject matter experts across the globe, and to provide a pathway to obtain a Certified Auto Theft Investigators certification.
To the SERC-IAATI current members, my challenge to you is to get involved in the association. Consider becoming a Board Member or State Delegate. Promote the SERC-IAATI and take a leadership role at your agency by passing on the knowledge you receive while attending the annual conferences.
In closing, I want to make myself, the Executive Board and Board Members available to you. Don’t hesitate to contact us for more information on how you can become part of the SERC-IAATI. I hope to see you all in Norfolk, Virginia for the 2018 Conference.
